Beach Weddings in the Detroit, Michigan Area

While most couples may not consider the Detroit area a prime destination wedding spot, the city and surrounding suburbs do feature beautiful beaches, waterfront gazebos and fine caterers. If you combine those with the natural ambiance, informal apparel, and a fun, inspired wedding cake, you can create a Detroit wedding to remember.

Located in Harrison Township, Metro Beach lies along Lake St. Clair. Couples may rent the beach gazebo for a fee of $50 and conduct their wedding ceremony on the beach. Couples may opt to have their reception the beach's Thomas S. Welsh Activity Center, which offers full-length views of the lake,and the park, and accommodates weddings with up to 300 guests. Metro Beach uses Perfect Plate as its caterer, and the wedding buffet includes all table linens, cake cutting, champagne toast for the head table, and standard bar. A two-entree buffet costs $33 a person and features choices like sliced roast beef, apple-stuffed pork loin, or Fettuccini Alfredo.

Located on the border of Shelby Township and Rochester Hills, Stony Creek Metro Park sparkles along Stony Creek Lake. The Sunset Terrace banquet tent and beach gazebo is available to rent for $600. Both are located near the boat launch area, and couples exchange vows while viewing seasonal trees and flowers. Kosch Catering caters all weddings at Stony Creek, and their packages start at $31 a person, with entrees like Traverse City chicken and bistro-beef sirloin. Staff will set up all tables, including the gift and DJ tables, and will cut and plate your wedding cake.

Belle Isle is a 983-acre island, right in the Detroit area, with over five miles of beautiful shoreline. While the beach is open in the summer, the most popular spot to get married on Belle Isle is the Detroit Yacht Club. The Yacht Club features majestic views of the harbor, with numerous photo opportunities on the docks overlooking the boats or gathering on the bridge. The DYC adheres to a strict formal dress code, particularly for evening weddings.

When planning your beach wedding, consider what kind of wedding gown you want to wear. If you would prefer something a little more informal while running along the beach, check out Bella Bridal in West Bloomfield. The bridal salon carries sheaths and chiffons from Moonlight Bridal, Casablanca, and Sandals Destination wedding gowns. To continue with your beach theme, order a beach-themed wedding cake. Most bakeries will create a cake to your specifications, so suggest a three- or four-tier cake frosted in buttercream, adorned with gum paste seashells.
