How to Repair Plastic Windows

A plastic window in an outdoor gazebo or on an automobile convertible can develop scratches from being mishandled which will mar its appearance. To repair a plastic window that has gotten scratched, use a multi-step plastic cleaning kit. These kits are available at home and garden shops, along with some hardware stores, and do not require any special equipment -- no power tools are needed. The procedure is straightforward enough for even those who shy away from weekend repair jobs.

Instructions

Spray the plastic window with an environmentally safe window glass cleaning spray. Wipe off the plastic window with a microfiber cloth to remove dirt and other contaminants.

Spray the "light" scratch remover from the kit on and around the scratch. Polish the scratch with an edge of the polishing cloth in a circular motion for a minute. Remove the cloth and inspect the scratch to see if it has become less visible -- if not, reapply the "light" scratch remover and polish the scratch for another minute.

Wipe off the scratch and surrounding area with a clean side of the lint-free cloth. Let the plastic window dry for 10 minutes before proceeding.

Spray the "heavy" scratch remover from the kit on and around the scratch. Polish the scratch in the same manner as was done with the "light" scratch remover, only using a clean edge of the polishing cloth. Inspect the scratch to see if it has become blended into the plastic, so it is no longer instantly visible to the eye. Reapply "heavy" scratch remover and repeat the procedure if the scratch is still visible.

Wipe off the scratch and surrounding area with a clean side of the lint-free cloth. Let the plastic window dry for the rest of the day.
