Ideas for Decorating a Gazebo With Tulle

Gazebos can be a great luxury in a yard. These often simple structures can be extremely natural-looking with stained and preserved wood, or they can be elegantly painted, usually a shade of white. These lawn adornments also serve an entertainment function; if you are having a large event on your property, gazebos offer both shelter and a focal point around which to arrange the event. Decorating your gazebo can make it a part of the event even more. Many outdoor weddings incorporate gazebos decorated with tulle into the ceremony.

Wrapping a long bolt of tulle around the base of the entire gazebo is a good way to start your gazebo tulle-decorating venture. Often, gazebos have a lattice-style base that provides a good surface-area around which to wrap the cloud-like material. Even if your gazebo does not have a very thick base, you can still wrap tulle around the base by weaving a long length of tulle through the support columns of the gazebo.

There is often a long railing or banister that wraps around the entire gazebo, with the exception of the open space which is, in effect, the doorway to the gazebo. Weave a long length of tulle over and under the banister, until the tulle on the gazebo looks like the stripes on a candy cane. Attach each end of the tulle to the front supporting beam (on either side of the doorway) with a clear string or a white ribbon, and allow some of the gossamer-like material to hang down, framing the opening.

Tulle can be used in many ways to accentuate or frame the natural openings in a gazebo's design. Gather two long pieces of tulle (about the height of the gazebo from the lowest part of the roof to the base) and affix them to the roof edge of the gazebo above the opening. You can use a staple gun for this, or even an adjustable curtain rod with springs, but avoid glue or an adhesive that will leave permanent markings. Gather each piece of tulle and tie it off to the supporting beams on either side of the opening. This will create the appearance of a tulle door or curtain. You can repeat this between each of the supporting beams, turning the gazebo into a fanciful house with windows and doors defined by tulle.

Use a long piece of tulle width-wise between each supporting beam of the gazebo to create an elegant draping decoration. This will create a look like a valance between each supporting beam and can have a dramatically attractive effect. You can further embellish upon this look by hanging a simple piece of tulle straight down between each draped piece. Hang a long tulle piece with silver decorations or strings of light in the very center of the gazebo to create a magical effect.
