How Can I Decorate a Gazebo With Flowers?

A beautifully decorated gazebo can be the focal point of an outdoor wedding or reception. But there are two major considerations when decorating gazebos for that special day: size of the arrangements and weather. Gazebos are permanent structures, unlike canopies and arches, that have walls. But the walls don't play too large a part in the decorations. In fact, most gazebos used in weddings are not four-sided, so the decorations tend to focus on the posts that hold up the roof, according to The Wedding Decorator.

Choose flowers that compliment the colors in the wedding and stand up well over time and temperature. Silk flowers are often used for this reason, but you can go with fresh flowers as well. Just avoid heat-sensitive varieties such as gardenias or stephanotis, according to Wedding Gazebos.

Gather together at least one large floral centerpiece with greenery for the center front of the gazebo. This will be placed right above the entrance. One large centerpiece or spray will be easier to see from a distance than small isolated flowers that will get lost in the details. If you are using silk flowers, tie flowers with greenery together with floral wire or insert them into dry floral foam. If you are using fresh flowers, wrap stems of flowers around floral wire and insert into wet floral foam. Do not crush the stems of the fresh flowers with the floral wire. Make sure to hide the wire and foam with foliage.

Attach the large spray to the top center of the gazebo using a hook if available. If hooks are not available, secure the spray by tying it with ribbon or tulle. If this is still not possible, consider using two freestanding sprays on either side of the entrance to the gazebo instead.

Wrap or drape lengths of floral garland or greenery along the side rails and posts leading up to the roof of the gazebo. Garland is easier to handle than single flowers and again, provides more impact. Tie the garland down securely in several places using tulle or ribbon in a complementary color.

Place fresh flowers in shallow containers directly on the ground around the gazebo. Cover the containers with mulch and water them well on the day of the event. You can also put silk flowers in small flower pots to lay around the perimeter of the gazebo.
