Things Needed to Build a 10X10 Gazebo Floor

Gazebo floor kits in 10-by-10-foot configurations are available, or are built with a pattern. Either option requires similar parts and tools, although the kit providing most everything needed. Besides the parts, gazebo floor construction requires tools that measure, assemble and level the floor.

Most 10-by-10-foot gazebo floors are constructed of treated wood that prevents decay. Cedar is sometimes used because it's decay resistant and requires minimal maintenance. The wood is often stained, giving it a decorative color and provides a coating for further protection from outdoor elements. Gazebo floor kits are available with the flooring provided in panels. Some gazebo floor kits are constructed from composite wood, which is also decay resistant. The kit may include a series of joists and panel pieces, as well as floorboards that sit on top of the wood base.

Stain the wood panels before assembling them. Most kit instructions advise using two coats of oil-based, penetrating stain. Let the stain dry thoroughly before assembling the panels. The panels connect together with screws or bolts, often requiring a screwdriver or power drill. The floor may connect to a series of base plates and wood blocks. These parts work as feet for the flooring giving it more stability.

Other miscellaneous tools included in constructing a gazebo floor include a level, tape measure, hammer and pencil. Some parts may connect to each other, and a hammer taps the pieces tightly into place. Use a pencil to mark measurements directly on the boards for more accurate measuring. A tape measure is needed when calculating board length or determining where to place panels on the ground. Use the level to verify if the all areas of the floor are plumb and readjust the position of the floor or its assembly as necessary.

Assemble the floor on a flat surface where you plan to install it. Assistance may be necessary for assembling and lifting gazebo floor parts. Before building a gazebo, check with your local building department about obtaining required permits.
