How to Build a Canopy Roof

A canopy roof can be used to shelter an outdoor party or protect cars and boats from the elements. You can build your own canopy roof using poles and a strong, durable canvas material. You need to assemble a frame that can stand by itself. Then, strap the canvas securely onto the upper part of the frame to complete your own simple canopy roof. The following is for a 10-foot by 10-foot canopy roof, but you can adjust to the height, length and width you want.

Instructions

Insert 4 poles each pole into flagpole stands that will fit them snugly. Glue or screw each stand onto thick, flat plywood bases.

Assemble 4 more poles into a square using three-way pipe or pole connectors. Each connector should have its third port pointing down. Turn this square frame upside down and insert a stand-up pole into each open port; the plywood stands on the poles will face upward.

Lay a sheet of canvas flat on the ground. Place the assembled frame (still upside down) in the middle of the canvas. The canvass should extend 2-3 inches from the frame in every direction.

Wrap each edge of the canvas around a pole and tape it to the pole with strong adhesive tape. Tuck in any corners of the canvas that stick out and tape them down.

Flip the canopy roof right side up once the whole canvas is secure to the roof frame.
