Homemade Gazebos

How you plan to use your gazebo will determine its size and where to locate it. A large gazebo for entertaining or a gazebo that surrounds a hot tub will require more specific locations and sizes. Considerations for size and location include specific use, whether the structure will block or enhance any views, local building and zoning laws and utility lines and equipment.

Gazebo designs range from simple, clean lines, to rustic appearances to elaborate ornamental wooden structures. A very easy and unusual-looking gazebo made from rustic logs and sapling trees is also cheaper than a traditional gazebo design if the materials are sourced from fallen and thinned trees. Create a modern appearance with cedar lumber that is constructed with vertical lines, including vertical posts in the railings. Use inexpensive treated lumber for budget gazebo framework, and add an ornamental touch with latticework corners.

While planning your homemade gazebo, a major consideration besides the cost of the materials and compliance with local building and zoning ordinances is how long the project will take to complete. A simple small gazebo may take a weekend to build, while a larger, more elaborate structure might require up to two weeks of construction time. Preparation and organization help keep construction time under control, and any help from friends or family will cut down on the completion time.
