Canvas-top gazebos are the perfect way to add a little shade to your open lawn on a hot day if you wish to entertain or host a get together with friends and family. Sold at most home goods stores, canvas-top gazebos have been designed so a few people can assemble one in minutes. The frame is usually a light metal like aluminum, and then a fabric or vinyl top goes over the frame to provide shade.

Unroll the contents of your gazebo from the bag in which it came. In some instances, this bag may be the canvas top for the gazebo. If not, the top will be in the bag as well.
2Assemble the top or "roof" of the gazebo first as you will not be able to reach it once it is on the four corner poles. Follow the manufacturer's assembly instructions for the top portion of the gazebo. It will often involve snapping several smaller poles together to make two cross poles.
3Lay the canvas top over the top frame of the gazebo. It will be difficult to put on the canvas top once the roof has already been set up on the poles. Stretch it tightly across the frame, and secure it to each corner of the frame using the Velcro strips that are usually provided. Otherwise, you may have to tie the corners onto the frame.
4Locate the poles of the frame that will be used for the four corners of the gazebo. They will either be the four longest poles, or you may have to attach two poles together to make four longer ones. In that case, you'll be looking for eight identical poles that snap into one another. In some instances, the sides of the gazebo will be attached to one another like an accordion, and all you will need to do is pull on the four corners to stretch out the frame.
5Place one corner pole underneath one corner of the roof frame while a friend holds up the opposing end of the roof frame. This will make it easier to lift the roof onto the corner poles. Next, relieve your friend, and attach that opposite pole second. Do the same thing with the remaining two corners.
6Push the four metal stakes through the rings located on each corner to secure the frame on the ground. If the ground is hard, you may need a hammer to do this. You can use the opposite end of the hammer, the forked end, to remove the stakes when taking down the gazebo later.
