How to Paint a Picture of a Gazebo

Painting a picture is not a mystical experience suited for only the most talented. By using simple techniques, and some concentrated time and effort, even a novice can complete a painting of that beautiful gazebo in a backyard or local park. Watercolor paint is a good choice for an art beginner. Your work will benefit from focusing on the gazebo colors and the emotions evoked by the scene, instead of attempting to replicate every detail.

Instructions

    1

Draw a 1-inch square on the cardboard. Cut out the square interior with the scissors, leaving the square frame intact.

    2

Look through the cardboard frame at the gazebo, determining the composition of the painting. The placement of the gazebo could include a centered or slightly off-center positioning within the scene.

    3

Draw light lines with pencil on the watercolor paper to indicate the placement of the gazebo and the rest of the scene.

    4

Dip the largest paintbrush in water and paint, mixing several colors to get the desired shade. Practice covering large areas, like the sky or a lawn, with the watercolor paint on the scrap watercolor paper.

    5

Practice covering smaller areas with the medium-sized brush and fine lines with the smallest brush. Use a small amount of water to create the finest lines with the small brush.

    6

Begin painting the gazebo scene's large background areas, like the sky and grass. Continue painting medium-sized areas, including the basic structure of the gazebo. Add fine details of the gazebo and the surrounding scene with the small brush.
