Gazebo Removal

Removing a dangerously rotted outbuilding from your property requires care and planning not only to tear down the building itself, but also to properly dispose of what's left over. If the gazebo being demolished is painted or constructed of pressure treated lumber, it should not be burned because of the danger of poisonous smoke. Additionally, care should be taken to avoid wasp or hornet nests in the rafters of the building to avoid stings.

Instructions

Place the ladder against the roof of the gazebo, and then remove the shingles from the roof using the flat-bladed shovel. This will reduce the weight on the roof and make the job of cleaning up easier.

Remove the ladder from the gazebo, cut away decorative trim using the reciprocating saw and throw it into the trash bin. The demolition blade will cut through metal as well as wood, so you don't have to remove the screws or nails from the gazebo prior to cutting. Do not remove the structural supports yet.

Remove the plywood from the rafters atop the gazebo. This can be done by striking the underside of the plywood with a length of heavy pole to dislodge the nails used to secure it to the rafter beams. Place all the plywood from the roof into the trash bin.

Remove the flooring from the gazebo using either the reciprocating saw or a crowbar. Avoid damaging the floor beams, however, as these still hold the weight of the rafters.

Cut the rafters from the structure of the gazebo one at a time with the reciprocating saw, being careful to watch for falling lumber. It is best to work from the outside of the gazebo to avoid injury. When the roof rafters have been removed, put them into the trash bin to get them out of the way.

Cut the main structural supports of the gazebo now that they do not support the weight of the rafters and throw them into the trash.

Cut apart the floor beams in manageable sections and throw them into the trash bin to complete the demolition of the gazebo.
