How to Design a Zen Garden With a Hot Tub

For many, nothing proves quite as relaxing as taking a leisurely dip in the hot tub. Instead of placing this source of soothing warmth haphazardly in your space, craft a garden specifically designed to house it that is fitting with your relaxation theme. By creating a Zen garden, you can prepare an outdoor area ideal for washing away the stresses of the day.

Choose several soothing earth tones to feature in the space. If you create a brick area to house your hot tub, use natural-toned bricks in place of garish red ones. For example, select brown stone to create your hot tub housing patio. Any furnishings you place within the garden should also be earth-toned.

Place the hot tub in a tucked-away corner. By positioning the hot tub in a corner instead of putting it in the center of the action, you make it an out-of-the-way retreat that feels private and protected. To make it appear even more private, plant hue hedges on several sides of the tub for more seclusion.

Add authentic wood furnishings. Zen decor is all about nature, so your furnishings should be crafted from natural wood, not synthetic plastic.

Select soft lighting. Place lighting coming up from the ground, such as garden lights, around the space. To save money in wiring, purchase solar-powered lights that collect energy throughout the day and not pull from your power when they run at night.

Surround the perimeter of your space with rocks. Use authentic stones to define the area instead of an artificial fence. Get crafty with your rock placement, stacking stones to create interesting and visually stunning collections that are a beauty to behold.

Add simple plants around the space. Stick with green plants with sleek lines in place of elaborate flowers. Try, for example, adding some moss and allowing it to climb your stones, or decorate the space with some ornamental trees, such as Japanese maple trees.
