How to Decorate for an Arabian Nights Party

You have hired the belly dancers for entertainment and arranged for an evening full of Middle Eastern music and Arabian food. You have your bedouin or Arabian princess or sheik costume. Now, it is time to decorate the venue for a memorable Arabian Nights-themed party.

Instructions

Hold the event in a large outdoor event tent or gazebo and decorate the tent with vibrant colors, such as orange, red and gold. Instead of traditional Western tables and chairs, set up seating areas with ornate throw rugs and plush cushions.

Hang clear twinkling lights from the tent's ceiling. Space the strands approximately 2 feet apart and run them in random patterns throughout the ceiling to create a starry night ambience.

Line the walls of the tent with curtains or large pieces of silk, brocade and other rich fabrics. Use the orange, red and gold-tone color scheme here, too, but include a little bit of cream to lighten the decor. If you are working on a tight budget, hang the fabrics in one area of the tent, around the seating area or the serving tables.

Set up large serving tables, covered with orange, red and gold-toned tablecloths. Decorative food platters filled with grapes, figs, nuts, dried fruit, pita breads and meats, add to the Arabian decor and also allow guests at the party to help themselves to the foods they prefer.

Fill the tent with incense and candles on large stand-alone candleholders. Make sure the tent is well ventilated and the candles are not placed anywhere they may become a fire hazard. You can also create a similar look with LED candles and use potpourri to add the aromatic character to the venue.

Add brass lanterns and oil lamps as decorative items to food and gift tables.

Set up a table for party favors. For favors, fill tea glasses with dried fruit and candy, wrap the glasses in an organza fabric and tie the fabric closed with a ribbon strung with imitation jewels.
