How to Clean a White Canvas Canopy Top

Canvas is a common fabric for outdoor use. This is because canvas is thick and durable enough to withstand brilliant sunshine as well as rain and other precipitation. White canvas is particularly durable because it will not show signs of sun-bleaching and color change. Even still, white canvas is susceptible to mold, rust, dirt and other stains.

Instructions

Remove the white canvas canopy top if possible.

Shake the canopy top out vigorously to help remove loose dirt and debris. Brush the canopy top with a dry brush to remove all of the loose and dry debris.

Lay the canvas out on a flat surface that will not be damaged by your cleaning solution. This includes concrete or finished outdoor wood.

Soak the canvas with clear water from your hose.

Fill a bucket with warm water. Add 2 tbsp. mild liquid dish soap and mix until the water is sudsy.

Dip a scrubbing brush into the solution and scrub it over the entire canopy top surface. Work to remove all of the stains or to make them as light as possible.

Rinse the canvas with water from your hose.

Mix 1 cup of water with 1 cup of rubbing alcohol if you have mold or mildew stains on the canopy.

Dip a scrubbing brush into the solution and scrub it over the mold and mildew stains until they are gone.

Rinse the canopy with water and let it dry completely. Don't put it in the dryer as this will shrink it.
