Gazebo Assembly Directions

A gazebo is a small, open-sided decorative wooden structure that consists of a raised wooden platform covered with a roof. Gazebos have long existed in public parks, and now many homeowners are installing small gazebos in their yards. A gazebo provides an outdoor place for your friends and family to gather. Constructing a gazebo can be challenging, so a prefabricated gazebo kit takes care of some of the work and lets you assemble the rest.

Instructions

Buy a gazebo kit at a home improvement store, or order a gazebo kit online. These kits will come with all of the pieces necessary to construct the kit, with the largest pieces, such as the roof and the floor, pre-assembled. Expect to spend $2,000 to $3,000 (2010 prices) for a gazebo that is 6 to 8 feet across.

Build the foundation for the gazebo. Pour a concrete slab to place the gazebo on, or build piers by digging holes in the ground, filling them with concrete and installing footers for the gazebo.

Open the gazebo kit, and organize the kit by grouping similar pieces together to speed up construction.

Lay the floor panels face down, and fit them together. Connect them by screwing the provided screws through the pre-drilled holes.

Flip the floor over, and move it into position on the concrete slab or footings. Follow local zoning regulations regarding whether the gazebo must be secured to the foundation or footings.

Insert the beams that will support the roof into position around the perimeter of the floor, but don't screw them into the floor yet.

Fit one of the wall panels into place between two roof supports and attach it with the provided screws. Repeat this step until you've installed all wall panels.

Screw the roof supports into the floor. Inspect all of the joints for firm and secure attachments.

Place a ladder in a position where you can begin to install the roof panels.

Slide the roof trusses into position, and attach them where they meet in the center and where they meet the walls. Get an assistant to help you if necessary.

Place a roof panel on top of two roof trusses, and screw it into place according to kit instructions. Install the rest of the roof panels.
