How to Install a Glider Swing to a Gazebo

If you like to relax in your garden and take time to enjoy the flowers and other landscaping, you can install a glider swing in your gazebo. A garden gazebo provides shade and relief from the sun's penetrating rays during the hot summer months. It is a free-standing structure that has enough room in which to place a swing that can provide your children -- or even you -- hours of enjoyment.

Instructions

    1

Measure the roof joist of the gazebo with a tape measure. Measure the distance of the chains on the swing. Subtract the measurement of the swing from the gazebo joist. Divide the remainder by 2. For example, if the gazebo joist is 120 inches across and the swing is 48 inches long, subtract 48 from 120 to get 72. Divide 72 by 2 to get 36.

    2

Drill a hole to screw the first eye-bolt 36 inches away from one end of the joist and dill another hole to screw the other bolt 36 inches from the other side. This will center the swing in the gazebo.

    3

Measure the required length of chain needed for installation. Measure the distance from the roof beam to the base of the gazebo. Cut 7-foot chains with an 8-foot beam to give the swing an 18-inch clearance. This allows enough chain for hanging the swing.

    4

Cut four chains the same length, one for the front and one for the back or each side of the swing. Use a hacksaw to cut through the chains.

    5

Hang the chains from the eye-bolts using S-hooks.

    6

Attach the chains to the swing using S-hooks. Slide the S-hook into the hold in the arm of the swing, if it has one. If there are no holes, attach the S-hooks to the seats or bottom supports.
